ENGLISH:
Pronunciation was an essential aspect of English speaking skills. However, many eighth Grade Students at MTsN 2 Bangka Barat experienced difficulties in pronouncing English words accurately due to limited pronunciation practice and ineffective learning media. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using the U-Dictionary application in Improving Students’ English pronunciation skills. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one-group before-and-after design involving 58 eighth grade students,
consisting of 28 students from Class VIII A and 30 students from Class VIII B. Data were collected through pronunciation oral tests administered before and after the treatment. Students’ performances were assessed by two raters to ensure score reliability. The data were
analyzed using the normality test and paired sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The eesults showed that the mean score of Class VIII A increased from 38.63 (SD = 6.30) to 69.66 (SD = 8.91) (t = -18.761, df = 27, p = 0.000). Likewise, the mean score of Class VIII B
increased from 39.44 (SD = 7.87) to 70.73 (SD = 7.10) (t = -25.196, df = 29, p = 0.000). The paired sample t-test also revealed a statistically significant difference between students’ pronunciation scores before and after the treatment (p = 0.000 < 0.05). These findings indicated
that the U-Dictionary application effectively improved the English pronunciation skills of eighth grade students at MTsN 2 Bangka Barat.
