Abstract

INDONESIA:

ENGLISH:
The halal industry in Indonesia has been rapidly growing along with the increasing awareness of Muslim consumers regarding the importance of halal product assurance. However, many micro-enterprises have yet to apply for halal certification, particularly in Bangka Regency, which has strong potential in culinary and seafood processing sectors. This study aims to examine the influence of halal awareness and certification costs on micro-entrepreneurs’ intention to apply for halal certification, with religiosity as an intervening variable. This research employed an associative design with a quantitative approach. The study population consisted of 6,186 micro food and beverage enterprises, with a sample of 98 respondents determined using Slovin’s formula. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear analysis.

The findings reveal that halal awareness significantly and positively affects religiosity as well as directly influences the intention to apply for halal certification. Certification costs have a significant negative effect on certification intention but show no significant effect on religiosity. Furthermore, religiosity mediates the relationship between halal awareness and certification intention, but it does not mediate the relationship between certification costs and certification intention. These results highlight the necessity of strengthening entrepreneurs’ understanding of halal principles and the need for local government policies to subsidize or facilitate certification costs for micro-enterprises. Theoretically, this study reinforces the applicability of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) in explaining micro-entrepreneurs’ behavioral intentions toward halal certification.
