Abstract

INDONESIA:
Masalah utama yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah rendahnya keterampilan menyimak siswa kelas VIII di MTs Al-Islam Kemuja, khususnya dalam aspek menyimak selektif, menyimak berdasarkan area, dan menyimak responsif. Studi pendahuluan yang melibatkan wawancara dengan guru dan tes awal menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 91,1% siswa gagal dalam tes awal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas metode Quiz Team dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa serta mendeskripsikan penerapannya di kelas. Pendekatan kuantitatif digunakan dengan desain quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group. Sampel terdiri dari dua kelas yang sudah ada, yaitu Kelas VIII D (kelompok eksperimen, 29 siswi) dan Kelas VIII A (kelompok kontrol, 33 siswa laki-laki), yang dipilih melalui purposive sampling berdasarkan hasil tes awal. Penerapan metode ini bertujuan untuk mendorong partisipasi aktif, kerja sama, dan kesenangan dalam proses pembelajaran. Data dikumpulkan melalui pre-test, post-test, dan observasi kelas. Rata-rata nilai pre-test adalah 49,03 untuk kelompok eksperimen dan 49,09 untuk kelompok kontrol. Setelah perlakuan, rata-rata nilai post-test kelompok eksperimen meningkat menjadi 82,14 (SD = 7,95), sementara kelompok kontrol memperoleh nilai 64,85 (SD = 9,15). Hasil uji independent samples t-test menunjukkan nilai t = 7,56 (lebih besar dari t-tabel = 1,671) dengan signifikansi < 0,05, yang menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan secara statistik. Perbedaan standar deviasi sebesar 2,05 mencerminkan efek yang besar. Disimpulkan bahwa metode Quiz Team efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak siswa secara signifikan.

ENGLISH:
The main problem addressed in this study was the low level of listening skills
among eighth-grade students at MTs Al-Islam Kemuja, particularly in selective, area, and responsive listening. A preliminary study involving teacher interviews, and preliminary tests revealed that more than 91.1% of students failed to the preliminary test. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Quiz Team method in improving students’ listening skills and to describe its implementation in the classroom. A quantitative approach was applied using a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The samples consisted of two classes that existed: Class VIII D (experimental group, 29 female students) and Class VIII A (control group, 33 male students), selected through purposive sampling based on
the result of Preliminary test. This implementation aimed at fostering active
participation, collaborative, and enjoyment in the learning process. The data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and classroom observations. The pre-test mean scores were 49.03 (experimental group) and 49.09 (control group). After treatment, the experimental group’s post-test mean increased to 82.14 (SD = 7.95), while the control group scored 64.85 (SD = 9.15). An independent samples t-test produced t = 7.56 (greater than t-table = 1.671) with sig. < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference. The difference in Standard Deviations was 2.05, reflecting a large effect. It was concluded that the Quiz Team method was effective in significantly improving students’ listening skills.
