Abstract

ENGLISH:
This research aimed to improve students’ reading comprehension in recount texts by using Kahoot as an interactive medium for tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Puding Besar. The study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental group taught using Kahoot and a control group taught without Kahoot. The data collection techniques included test, observation, and documentation. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the reading comprehension of students in the experimental group. The results of the paired sample t-test in the experimental group showed an increase in the average score from 49.20 (pre-test) to 80.26 (post-test). In contrast, the control group also showed an increase from 49.86 to 65.60, but the improvement was not as substantial. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test analysis indicated a statistically significant difference between the post-test scores of the two
groups. The t-obtained value of 5.845, exceeding the t-table value of 2.02, and a p-value of .000, which is less than the significance level of 0.05. These results support the rejection of the null hypothesis and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. In conclusion, the use of Kahoot significantly improved students’ reading comprehension in recount texts, suggesting that interactive media can be an effective tool in teaching reading comprehension.
