Abstract
ENGLISH:
This study aims to find a significant differences between students of the eighth grade at MTS Al-Muhajirin Koba who got treatments by using Look and Say Method and those who were not. It also wanted to discover whether Look and Say Method could affect students in improving their reading comprehension. This study used quasi-experimental design which is part of quantitative method. This study was conducted at MTS Al-Muhajirin Koba. The population was eight grade that consisted of two classes, namely VIII A and VIII B. There were 60 students as the sample from both of classes: 27 students for the experimental group and 33 students for the control group. In this study, the technique of sampling that researcher used was non-probability sampling more specifically used purposive sampling. Three areas of this study's scope were restricted: finding out the main idea, vocabulary knowledge, and to making inferences. The researcher used pre-test and post-test procedures to assess students’ reading comprehension. Independent T-test was used to analyze the test. The researcher also used observation sheet in the percentage form to see students’ participation, cooperation, and comprehension. The results of the statistical analysis revealed that the mean score of the experimental group (75.11) was higher than that of the control group (61.39). Based on the independent sample t-test, the obtained t-value (6.304) was greater than the t-table value (2.00) with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. It indicated that the Look and Say Method had a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension.
