The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a significant difference between the eighth-grade students at MTS N 1 Bangka Barat who received instruction using the PREP strategy and those who did not. The study also examines the effectiveness of the PREP strategy in improving students’ reading skills. The researcher used a quasi-experimental design, which was part of the quantitative research method. The research was conducted at MTS N 1 Bangka Barat, with the population consisting of two eighth-grade classes, VIII A and VIII B, totaling 51 students. From this population, 25 students were assigned to the experimental group and 26 to the control group. The researcher applied a non-probability sampling technique, specifically saturation sampling, due to the relatively small population size. Analysis of the experimental group on pre-test and post-test results revealed a mean difference of 13.200, a standard deviation of 6.436, a standard error of 1.287, a t-value of -15.856, with 24 degrees of freedom, and a significance value (2-tailed) of .000 with t-table 2,010. Because the significance value was below the 0.05 threshold, it was concluded that the used of the PReP strategy led to a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension in the experimental class.
