Abstract
ENGLISH:
English is evaluated after listening, reading, speaking, and writing: four skills. Writing skills are not only used to test how well students are in acquiring a second or foreign language, but their main purpose is to express ideas in English with reasonable consistency and accuracy. However, many students still make mistakes in their letters. The study entitled "Analyzing Errors in Writing Descriptive Texts for Students in Nineth Grades" is to analyze errors in descriptive texts. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of grammatical errors when writing descriptive texts and the dominant types of errors when writing descriptive texts. The subjects in this study were 30 nineth grade students from MTS Nurulah Air Mesu Timur and used the descriptive qualitative method. The researchers collect the data from the students writing task. The result in this research that are errors were made by students based on the surface strategy taxonomy was four types of the grammatical errors they are Misformation (42 errors = 41,1%), addition (30 errors = 29,5%), misordering (17 errors = 16,6%), and omission (13 errors = 12,8%). It means that dominant type of grammatical errors in this research is misformation.
