Abstract
The objectives of this study were to know the implementation of Minds’ Eye strategy in improving student’s reading comprehension in narrative texts and to find out any significant difference of reading improvement between students who were taught Minds’ Eye strategy and students who were taught without using Minds’ Eye strategy at MA Al-Islam Kemuja in academic year 2018/2019. In this study, the researcher limited the study in reading comprehension especially understanding main idea, identify the word meaning, finding topic and making inference. In this study, the researcher used quantative research with quasi- experimental design. The population of this research was the whole class of X IPA grade students, X IPS 1, X IPS 2, X MAK 1, and X MAK 2 with total number 110 students. Next, the sample of this research was X MAK 1 and X MAK 2 which is determined by using purposive sampling. Based on the results of observation, most of students in experimental group had a progress in every aspects such as cooperation, participation, and concept (product). Then, the result of the test were analyzed by using independent sample t-test in SPSS 22. Based on the findings of the study, the results of independent sample t-test of the students’ post-test between experimental group and control group found that t-obtained 3,328. Comparing the t-obtained and t-table was 2.01 and degree of freedom was
49. Since the p-output or the significant (2-tailed) was .002 lower than computation with level significant 0.05, and t-obtained 3.328 was higher than critical value of t-table 2.01. Therefore the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that there was a significant difference between the students who were taught by using Minds’ Eye strategy and the students who were not taught by using non-Minds’ Eye strategy. Hopefully, this study can be a reference and comparison to conduct the research in the same case but in different genres or subjects
