Abstract

ENGLISH:

The purpose of this study were: (1) to explore and analyze the oral communication strategies mostly used by 3rd students of English education study program, (2) to find out the students speaking ability, (3) to find out a significant correlation between oral communication strategies used by 3rd student of English education study program and their speaking ability in IAIN SAS BABEL.

A Quantitative method was used in this study. This study applied a Pearson Product Moment Formula. The population of this study were all student of 3rd semester English education study program, with the total 43 students.
Total sample were 43 students. The result of strategies mostly used by 3rd students was fluency oriented strategies. The result of student speaking ability was in average to good criteria. The finding of the study showed that the result of the mean score was 72,28. Then, the findings of the correlation between oral communication strategies and speaking ability was 0,350. It was in low criteria and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. It could be concluded that there was low correlation between oral communication strategies and student’s speaking ability.
