Abstract
ENGLISH :
This research was aimed to discover a significant difference by comparing samples who got a treatment through information gap activity and those who were not in the eighth grade of SMP N 1 Mendo Barat. This study adopt a quasi-experimental design. The researcher used purposive sampling to select group representatives who had the same characteristics as the research objectives. 56 students were included in the sample from two classes, with 29 placed as experimental group and 29 as control group. Two areas of this study's scope were restricted: vocabulary and pronunciation. Pre-test and post-test procedures were used by researcher to assess students' speaking skills. The test was analyzed by SPSS 21. The result of the test was analyzed by using statistical analysis of Paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. Based on the result analysis. The observation’s outcome revealed, Information Gap Activity gained the students’ participation, cooperation, and students’ concept aspect. The result of this study revealed that the post-test scores were better than the pre- test scores of experimental groups. It could be seen by comparing their means. The research found that the mean in experimental class (Mean= 63.6043) was higher compared to control class (Mean=55.4828). In line with the result, the researcher suggests that informartion gap activity was one of the effective methods to improve students’ speaking ablity.
