Abstract
ENGLISH:
This study aimed to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery through the use of the Scattergories Game at SMP Negeri 1 Simpang Teritip. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group design. The population consisted of 110 seventh-grade students, while the sample consisted of 55 students, with 29 students in class VII C as the experimental group and 26 students in class VII D as the control group. Data were collected through vocabulary tests and analyzed using paired-samples t-test and independent-samples t-test with SPSS 26. The experimental group obtained a mean score of 58.14 in the pre-test and 76.90 in the post-test, while the control group obtained 56.92 and 65.42, respectively. The paired-samples t-test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group. The independent-samples t-test showed no significant difference between the two groups in the pre-test (0.755 < 2.006), but showed a significant difference in the post-test (5.881 > 2.006). The experimental group obtained a higher post-test mean score than the control group. Therefore, the findings indicate that students who were taught using the Scattergories Game achieved better vocabulary mastery outcomes compared with students who received conventional classroom instruction.
