Abstract
ENGLISH:
This study investigated the effectiveness of Bing Chat AI in enhancing recount text writing skills among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Mendo Barat. Employing a quasi-experimental design with control and experimental groups, the research aimed to compare the implementation and outcomes of AI-assisted instruction against traditional methods. The experimental group utilized Bing Chat AI for structured support across writing stages, while the control group followed conventional instruction.
Results indicated a clear positive impact. Observational data revealed significantly higher and more proactive engagement marked by increased participation, collaboration, and conceptual understanding—in the AI-supported class. Statistically, while both groups improved, the experimental group demonstrated substantially greater progress, with a mean gain of 16.46 points compared to 5.18 in the control group.
Although the post-test mean difference (74.71 vs. 68.00) was statistically significant (p=0.066), the marked within-group improvement and observational evidence strongly affirm the tool's efficacy. The study concludes that Bing Chat AI serves as an effective scaffolding tool, providing real-time feedback that boosts student confidence, refines grammar and structure, and fosters active learning.
It is recommended as a valuable supplementary resource in EFL writing pedagogy. Suggestions include gradual integration by teachers, reflective use by students, and further research into AI's long-term and cross-contextual applications.
