Abstract
ENGLISH:
This study aimed to investigate whether there was a notable difference in
vocabulary achievement between eleventh grade students at SMP N 2 Puding Besar who were taught using narrative graphic novels and those who were not. Additionally, it sought to explore the potential effect of narrative graphic novels on enhancing students’ vocabulary skills, the vocabulary focused on noun, adjective, verb and adverb. The type of narrative text focused on fable, legend and fairytale.A quasi-experimental design, which falls under quantitative research methods, was employed for this study. The research took place at SMP N 2 Puding Besar, involving a population of two classes: VIII A and VIII B. The sample consisted of 58 students, with 28 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. Probability sampling, specifically saturation sampling, was used due to the limited number of students. In the experimental group, the pre-test and post-test results showed a mean difference of -16.250, with a standard deviation of 6.473 and a standard error of 1.223. The calculated t-value was -13.284, with 29 degrees of freedom, and the two-tailed significance was .000. Since this significance value (.000) is below the 0.05 threshold, it can be concluded that there was a significant improvement in students' vocabulary achievement following the implementation of graphic novels in the experimental class.
