Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to know the implementation of Predicting and Confirming Activity (PACA) Strategy in improving reading comprehension of the 10th grade students of MA Sabilul Muhtadin Jada Bahrin, and (2) to find out whether there was any significant difference in reading comprehension at the 10th grade students of MA Sabilul Muhtadin Jada Bahrin between the students’ who were taught by using Predicting and Confirming Activity (PACA) Strategy and the students who were not.

This study focused on reading comprehension in three kinds of narrative text, they were legend, fable and fairy tale. For measuring the students’ reading comprehension the researcher evaluated it from some particular elements of reading comprehension, they were understanding main idea, making inferences, and using vocabulary knowledge for effective reading. In conducting this study, the researcher used quasi experimental design. The samples of this study were 31 students that were taken from the tenth grade students of MA Sabilul Muhtadin Jada Bahrin in academic year 2018/2019. The data were obtained by means of the test.

The results of the test were analyzed by using independent sample t-test in SPSS 16. Based on the findings of the study, the p-output or the significant (2- tailed) was 0.000, lower than computation with level significant, 0.05, and t- obtained 4.715 was higher than critical value of t-table 2.045, therefore the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that there was significant difference between the students who were taught by using Predicting and Confirming Activity (PACA) Strategy and the students who were taught without using Predicting and Confirming Activity (PACA) Strategy in reading comprehension to tenth grade students of MA Sabilul Muhtadin Jada Bahrin.
