Abstract

ENGLISH:

The aim of this research is to find out whether the use of the cake application
is effective in increasing the vocabulary of class XI students at Bakti Parit Tiga
High School. The type of research used in this study is quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test. This design was used to compare the results of students’ vocabulary achievement between the control group and experimental group. This research focused on narrative text expertly on nouns, verbs and adjectives. The research subjects were the classes at SMA BAKTI Parit Tiga, which were XI IPS 1 as an experimental group and XI IPS 2 as a control group.

The result of the test was analyzed by using statistical analysis of paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test in SPSS 26.
The results of this study showed that (1) vocabulary mastery after using the cake application in the treatment class with an average of 94.79; (2) vocabulary mastery in the control class with an average of 88.89; (3) vocabulary mastery of experimental class students who use the cake application was higher than the control class with a value of sig 0.03. Then, the result of independent samples test of students’ post-test between experimental group and control group, the t-obtained in equal variances assumed was 3.058, and the significant (2-tailed) was 0.03. Since t-obtained was higher than t-table (3.058>2.005) and the significant (2-tailed) was lower than computation with level significant (0.03<0.05). The null hypothesis (Ho)
was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.

Based on the fact above, it could be concluded that there was a significant difference between the students who were taught by using Cake application and the students who were taught without using Cake application in students’ vocabulary mastery. It means that the use of the Cake application effectively increased the vocabulary of class XI students at Bakti Parit Tiga High School.
