Abstract
ENGLISH
The objective of this study was to find out the correlation between students’
grammar mastery and their writing ability in descriptive text at SMPN 3 Puding Besar. The population of this study were 32 students that were taken from seventh grade of SMPN 3 Puding Besar. This research was quantitative research with pearson’s correlation coefficients was used to analyze the data. The writer used two kind of test. Grammar test which was in multiple choice, and writing test was in a paragraph. Dealing with the result of correlation coefficient computation, it revealed that was 0,305 and for the critical value from a significant level table 0.05/5% was 0,349. It was considered that the null hyphotesis (Ho) was accepted and the alternative hyphotesis (Ha) was rejected. To sump up, there was no significance correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their writing ability. Students who had minimum level of grammar, it did not mean that they had poor ability in writing.
